Ukrainian and Polish Natural Scientists: Between Religious Imagination Beliefs and Scientific Worldview

Abstract

Abstract. The monograph under review is based on original field research materials, which include 100 interviews with physicists and biologists from Ukraine and Poland, and the author’s conceptualizations. It addresses a wide scope of theoretical and methodological issues, including such important sociological concepts as “imaginarium” (imaginary) and “field”. The monograph proposes a taxonomy of religious types common among natural scientists localized in the socio-cultural contexts of Poland and Ukraine. The reviewer concludes that the author successfully accomplished a comparative analysis of the religious worldview of biologists and physicists in Ukraine and the analysis of the factors that shape them.
