Abstract

This article outlines the digital communication strategy of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. First, the author examines a number of UGCC official documents on digital activities, including documents of the Second Vatican Council, which was the first instance when the UGCC explicitly addressed  the media as an important influence on public opinion, and identifies the benefits and risks that UGCC perceives in online activities. Second, the article presents and analyzes the major web resources and digital projects of the UGCC, including the history of their appearance, the functions they perform, and the content itself.

Areas of UGCC digital activity include the work of cross-media (websites of newspapers and magazines, online radio and online television), the UGCC's official websites, thematically focused online media (youth, biblical), blogs and personal pages of clergy members on social networks, communication through key figures of the UGCC and the use of IT technologies, in particular for the creation of mobile applications. Three levels of UGCC online communication are addressed: communication between the UGCC and the world, communication between the UGCC clergy and its faithful, and internal communication between Greek Catholics.
