Abstract

Hyper-real religions are new forms of interaction between popular culture, myth, and religious phenomenа. The Handbook of Hyper-Real Religions contains a wide spectrum of studies on different groups, movements and organizations that can be classified as belonging to hyper-real religion according to Adam Possamai. From Jedis and Star Wars to Lord of the Rings and pagans, from Vampires and Otherkin to Harry Potter and the Roman Catholic Church—these case-studies conducted by a pleiad of scholars allow the reader to discover new ways of understanding the modern world of religions. Hyper-real religions reflect and highlight people’s efforts to create identity in today’s world characterized by consumption.
