This review of Professor Stephen Leonard Jacobs’ book Religion and Genocide addresses the complex role of religion in genocidal practices. The author, a renowned scholar, emphasizes that religion is a significant, though not decisive, factor in genocides. Jacobs meticulously analyzes the theoretical aspects of defining religion and genocide, draws parallels between religious and genocidal behaviors, and highlights the similarities in their mechanisms of emergence. The book consists of 12 chapters that gradually introduce the topic and continue with an in-depth discussion that includes historical examples, theoretical reflections, and practical proposals for genocide prevention. Education is given a prominent place as a key tool for preventing genocides, as well as the role of religious communities in addressing this issue.
